I expect students to be as active as they can be for
all activities presented in class. I will provide a wide variety of activities
throughout the school year. I want these activities to be fun, allow for
learning to occur and challenge students to achieve personal growth.
Grades 3 & 4 will be introduced to the skills
needed for various sports while 5 & 6 will have activities which reinforce
the skills used for each sport: soccer, football, volleyball, rollerblading,
gymnastics, cross country skiing, badminton, basketball, floor hockey, dance,
team handball, tennis, softball, golf, lacrosse, and ultimate Frisbee. Fitness
activities and low organized games will be played throughout the year too.
Students will be assessed daily by self evaluation
and teacher observation. Occasionally students will be asked to complete task
sheets for the activity. Fundamental Movement Assessment has defined
expectations for basic motor skills.
Rules & Expectations:
The gymnasium or field is my classroom. Respect
for self, others and property (equipment that we use) are my main rules. I
expect everyone to come dressed ready to be active so running shoes are a must
and only 1 shirt is needed (short sleeves best).
Students are more than welcome to wear shorts but
that is not mandatory.
Throughout the year students have the option to join
lunchtime activities such as: soccer, volleyball, badminton, floor hockey,
basketball, and softball. Grade 5 & 6 students can represent Wellington
School in the sports of soccer, volleyball and basketball if they practice with
the coaches. Grade 4, 5 & 6 students can run for Wellington School if they
join the indoor and outdoor running clubs before school. In January and
February there is the opportunity for student in grades 5 & 6 to cross
country ski at Windsor Park.
Be active and try your best and we’ll have a great school year!
