Welcome to the Grade 7 and 8 classroom! My name is Jeanne Truthwaite and I will be your child’s homeroom teacher. I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself and let you know what your child will be learning for the 2017-2018 school year.
I am a Métis woman and a single mother of a smart, funny, and beautiful eighteen year-old daughter. I live in Lockport, Manitoba: a lovely little community 20 minutes north of Winnipeg. Before I became a teacher, I had a few different jobs. I was a proof-reader for 10 years at a lottery ticket company. After that, I managed a private daycare in my home for seven years, and for ten years, I was also an educational assistant. It was while I was working as an educational assistant that I decided I wanted to become a teacher. For six years, I worked full-time and went to university in the evenings and on the weekends. Since then, I have taught Kindergarten, Grades 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Last year, I taught Grade 5 at Shaughnessy Park School.
I am looking forward to getting to know and teaching your child. A few things have been planned for the school year such as the Grade 7 Ski and Camping trips, as well as the Grade 8 Banff trip and Grade 8 Farewell. In addition to these outings, a full academic year has also been planned. Attached is a Subject Outline for each of the four core subjects.
