 Primary (Grades 1-4) Physical Education Course Outline

 
The Primary Physical Education Program is based on both the Kindergarten to Senior 4 
Physical Education/Health Education: Manitoba Curriculum Framework of Outcomes for 
Active Healthy Lifestyles (2000) and the Provincial Basic Movement Skills (1999) document. 
The fundamental movement skills and concepts will be developed through a variety of activities
that motivate children to participate in a positive rewarding way.
 
The five General Learning Outcomes include:              The five Physical Activity Categories include:

Basic Movement Skills
 
All students will be exposed to the basic movement skills, which will become the foundation for 
sport and activity skills learned in later grades.

Students learn and move at various rates through three stages of development.
 
Initial Stage: represents a child’s early attempts at performing movement skill
 
Formative Stage: the child has developed some aspects of the skill
 
Mature Stage: period when all aspects of a skill can be used and applied to a variety of situations
  


Intermediate (Grades 5-6) Physical Education Course Outline

 
The Intermediate Physical Education Program is based on both the Kindergarten to Senior 4 Physical Education/Health Education: Manitoba Curriculum Framework of Outcomes for 
Active Healthy Lifestyles (2000) and the Provincial Basic Movement Skills (1999) document.  
Students will continue to develop the fundamental movement skills and concepts through a variety of physical activities.  At this level emphasis will be placed on the general movement skills and concepts.
