Title: École Sir William Osler celebrates new spaces for learning

A new chapter is taking shape at École Sir William Osler. With funding support and guidance from the Province of Manitoba, the school recently celebrated the opening of its expansion, bringing bright new learning spaces, a full-size gymnasium, dedicated music and band rooms, an art studio and a state-of-the-art science lab to the school community.

For Principal Dominique Ostermann, the expansion is the latest step in years of growth and improvements at the school.

Since 2019, École Sir William Osler has opened its first official library, installed a new gymnasium floor and completed a major building envelope renovation that included new interior walls, ceilings, lighting, flooring, electrical systems, exterior brickwork and windows. Construction on the current expansion began in 2023.

Bringing the spaces to life

The work continued even after construction was complete. Staff worked together to decide how the new spaces would look, feel and function. The result is more space for students and staff and a welcoming environment throughout the school. “The amount of natural light and the common spaces create flexibility for all of our learners" shared Ostermann.

A celebration of community

The opening ceremony was also an opportunity to celebrate the people who make École Sir William Osler what it is. Community members and parents shared the historic importance of École Sir William Osler and its role in the community.

Students shared their experiences, speaking about how they have grown in their French language skills and as individuals during their time at the school. 

As École Sir William Osler continues to grow, these spaces will help keep the school at the centre of the learning experience, creating opportunities for students to build their skills, discover new interests and grow in their school community.
