FESTIVAL DU VOYAGEUR IN P1

Students in P1 had the opportunity to become a Voyageur. Well, at least by the magic of green screen! Ms. Kennedy brought in some Indigenous and Metis clothing for the students to try on and then was able to recreate historical pics with her students. The students really got into the acting and scenery. Students in grades 5 & 6 have been studying the Indigenous people and the Metis culture in their classrooms.

TUSC IN ROOM 10

Students in Mrs. Klassen's room 10 have been working intensely on their speaking in front of others and confidence skills during their T.U.S.C. (The Unbelievable Speakers Club) in-class sessions. Each week students are selected to deliver their speeches, based on a topic given to them, in front of the classroom at the speaker's podium. What a great way to develop students' writing skills and prepare them for public-speaking.

STEAM IN ROOM 12

WSD STEAM support teachers have been visiting classrooms around the school and bringing the basis of the 'Young Designers' program into the day-to-day teaching. Students in room 12 have been working with Ms. Huggins creating sharing sticks out of various materials. Students were focused and engaged and dove into the challenge of designing their own creations. toom%2012%20steam.jpg

SPOOKY READS IN ROOM P1

P1 really enjoyed the spooky month of October! The students let their imaginations run wild and published a book of free verse poetry. Scary plot twists make the book of creepy-poems a must-read. Students in room P1 will be able to bring home a copy, so we suggest parents read while with the lights on. For 'Novel Study', they have been reading the book, 'Small Spaces', by Katherine Arden and taking on roles as speakers for Literature Circles. The novel revolves around Ollie and how she works through grief through books but finds a very interesting story about a girl named Beth, the brothers who loved her and a very mysterious specter that can grant wishes, but do you really want to deal with the consequences? Ask your child what they thought of the book.

DESCRIPTIVE WRITING IN ROOM 4

Students in room 4 have been working on descriptive writing by describing a known character and seeing how many staff/students can guess and draw who the character is. Who do you think it is and are the guesses correct?

"In walked in Mr. _______. Although he was kind of grumpy, he had the widest smile full of pearly white teeth. He had a long torso with legs thin as sticks. His big bushy eyebrows make it look like he had no forehead. His long pointy nose could be seen from outer space. His hairless head shined. He often wore his black zipper jacket with a long black and gray, striped scarf around his neck. Mr. _______ looked like he had a plan."
