Public Lecture Event: Tanya Talaga

As the closing event of Winnipeg School Division's Student Absenteeism Summit, families and the public are invited to join guest lecturer Tanya Talaga as she will share reflections on student engagement and belonging, community responsibility for children, and the role of education in care, equity, and democratic participation.
Through powerful storytelling and insight drawn from her work amplifying Indigenous voices across Canada, Talaga invites audiences to consider how communities can work together to support young people and their futures.

About Tanya
Tanya Talaga is an award-winning Anishinaabe journalist and author of Seven Fallen Feathers, All Our Relations, and The Knowing. Through her bestselling books, acclaimed documentaries and podcasts, regular columns with the Globe and Mail, and powerful keynotes, Talaga aims to amplify Indigenous voices and stories across Canada and the world. She is a born storyteller, who is passionate about education reform and building a more inclusive and equitable future.
Talaga is of Anishinaabe and Polish descent. She is a proud member of Fort William First Nation in the Robinson-Superior Treaty territory with her maternal family having ties to Treaty 9. Her father was Polish Canadian.
