Beyond the Classroom: Character, Culture, and Connection on the DMCI Maroons’ Duke of Edinburgh Journey
From May 1–3, 12 DMCI students and 2 staff took part in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze & Silver Adventure Journey at the Epinette Trail in Spruce Woods Provincial Park This was more than camping, it was real outdoor education. Students learned hiking, camping, map reading with compass, navigation, survival skills, basic first aid, drone flying, shelter building, fire making, cooking, fire watch, scavenger hunts, friendship bands, and emergency evacuation skills. They also explored land-based learning, Indigenous plants, biodiversity, and environmental stewardship while practicing “Leave No Trace” principles. Through every hill climbed and every challenge faced, our DMCI students showed leadership, resilience, teamwork, and courage. We are proud of our DMCI Maroons for setting a strong example and proving that adventure builds character for life.
