Registering Your Child for School

If your child is a returning student and attending the same school, families do not need to re-register. 

If your child is transferring to a new designated catchment school for Middle Years or Senior Years, students are automatically enrolled. Families do not need to re-register.

Important Dates:

  • Tuesday, February 17 - New Student registration opens at 9 a.m.
  • Monday, April 6 - Schools of Choice application opens at 9 a.m.
  • Friday, May 15 - Schools of Choice application closes at 4 p.m.

Registering a new student 

Confirm your child’s designated catchment school using Find A School App. Enter your home address to see your designated catchment schools for Early, Middle or Senior years, as well as schools your child can attend for division-wide programming, such as vocational and language programs.

Registering at a designated catchment school

New students must complete the New Student registration form. For accommodation purposes, families can register in person at their catchment school's office. Make an appointment with the school office to complete the registration in person. Bring all the required documents for registration

Applying for Schools of Choice 

A student must be enrolled at their designated catchment school before applying for Schools of Choice. Schools of Choice applications are approved by the division's Superintendents’ Department. Application does not guarantee enrolment at a Schools of Choice.

WSD may decline Schools of Choice applications due to capacity constraints. For the 2026/27, WSD is not accepting Schools of Choice applications for the following schools (extenuating family circumstances related to childcare or siblings may be considered):

École Secondaire Kevlin High School
École River Heights School
École Lansdowne School
École Waterford Springs School
Brock Corydon School (English program)
Fort Rouge School

Registering a student if you are new to Canada 

Please contact our International Education Program office for additional assistance. This includes parents with a visitor’s visa living in the division; students on a study permit living in the division; and parents on a study visa or work permit with a child aged 18 or older.
