Our Hiring Process
Application Process for External Applicants
- Visit Apply to Education Careers website to view current WSD job openings.
- Sign in or create a new account at the top right of the page.
- Select a job posting from the list. Click ‘Apply’.
- Complete the application form. Include your resume and cover letter. Upload any other required documents for the job posting.
- Review your application. Click ‘Submit Application’ to complete the process. You will receive a confirmation email that your application has been successfully submitted.
Qualifications
Some applicants require specific qualifications or certifications to be considered for an interview. See qualifications for specific positions:

Teachers
Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a teachable subject area (i.e. French, Phys. Ed, Music, Vocational, Applied Technology, etc.)
Certifications or Licenses:
- Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate
- Provisional Professional Teaching Certificate from Manitoba Education

Educational Assistant (EA)
Required Qualifications:
Completion of secondary education (high school)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Educational Assistant diploma or certificate
- Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Child Development)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children
Certifications or Licenses:
- Valid First Aid/CPR-C certificate
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificate is an asset

Bus Driver
Required Qualifications:
Clear driver’s record/abstract
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong communication and ability to manage student behavior
Certifications or Licenses:
- Manitoba Class 2F Driver's Licence
- School Bus Operator's Certificate (SBOC) from Manitoba Education

Clerk
Required Qualifications:
Completion of secondary education (high school)
Preferred Qualifications:
- One or two-year program for administrative assistant/clerical
- Proficiency in office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Student Information Systems, etc.)
- Accurate keyboarding speed (40+ WPM)
Certifications or Licenses:
None required

Custodian
Required Qualifications:
Completion of secondary education (high school) or equivalent training
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous custodial/cleaning experience.
- Knowledge of WHMIS, Workplace Safety and Health, and Fire Safety
- Previous custodial/cleaning experience.
- Knowledge of WHMIS, Workplace Safety and Health, and Fire Safety
Certifications or Licenses:
A valid 5th Class Power Engineer license
Frequently Asked Questions
I don’t have the required document for my application. What should I do?
If you’re missing a required document, your application may be delayed or denied. We understand that some situations are beyond your control.
Email the Staff Support and Relations Office at recruitment@wsd1.org or call 204‑789‑0459. Explain why you can’t provide the document and include any proof (such as a receipt). A Staffing Officer will review your case and may follow up with questions.
What if I can’t provide my original certificate or degree?
Contact the Staff Support and Relations Office at recruitment@wsd1.org or call 204‑789‑0459. A Staffing Officer will review your case and may ask for alternative documents, such as transcripts.
I am an internationally trained teacher. Can I apply?
Yes, but you must have a Manitoba Teaching Certificate.

What accommodations can I request during the hiring process?

When do I provide work-related references?
After your interview, you will be asked to provide at least two work-related references from direct supervisors. We recommend asking for their permission before sharing their contact details.
How will I be notified after the interview?
The hiring manager will contact you. If you are not a successful candidate, it does not mean that you would not be a great addition to WSD. Some positions are very competitive. Ask the hiring manager for feedback—they can tell you what you did well and where to improve.
