I’m a member of the media. Can I contact schools directly?

No, all media requests must be coordinated through the Communications Services department first. Media should not directly contact schools.

Do I need permission to interview, record, or photograph students?

Yes. Student interviews, recordings, or photography require confirmed informed media consent in accordance with provincial privacy legislation. Permission must be approved by school staff in advance.

Can media access school property?

Media access to school property must be cleared through Communications Services first.

Can I film school grounds from public property?

Yes, but students cannot be identifiable. Some students cannot be photographed or recorded for safety reasons.

Can staff agree to interviews?

Yes, but all staff have the right to decline media interviews. Communications Services may suggest an alternate spokesperson if necessary.

How do I receive news about Winnipeg School Division?
