History

In 1994, I graduated from Kelvin’s International Baccalaureate Program. I hold an Honours History degree and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Winnipeg, as well as a Master’s in History from the University of Concordia (Montreal). During my summers in university, I worked as a guide at Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site, Vimy Ridge National Historic Site (France) and Winnipeg’s Exchange District. For over thirteen years, I have been privileged to teach at Kelvin in the English, French Immersion and IB programs. Currently, I am also the Social Studies Department Head.

Outside of the formal classroom, my life has been enriched by working with bright industrious students in the Kelvin History Student Club as well as the Indigenous Issues Teacher/Student Book Club. For several years, I coached Kelvin Varsity Boys’ basketball, taught in our school’s Human Rights Program and regularly spoke at our Remembrance Day ceremony. In 2015, Myles Burdeniuk (another Kelvin teacher) and I published “Courage, Truth, Right: One Hundred Years of Kelvin High School History”, a book that commemorates the history of our school.

With a love for travel, I have lived in Paris and London, as well as backpacked in Africa, South America, Asia and most of Europe. Hoping to inspire young students to travel after high school, I have led eight Kelvin Europe trips during spring break.

I am profoundly grateful to work with wonderful students and staff at our great school!
