WSD Celebration Pow Wow 2022

Winnipeg School Division (WSD) students, staff and community are coming together at Tec Voc High School field on Thursday, June 9 for the 2022 WSD Celebration Pow Wow.

Festivities are open to the community and begin with the Grand Entry at 11:00 a.m., followed by drum groups, dancing, and learning sessions. At 11:20 p.m., an Honour Song will begin for Winnipeg School Division Graduates and Build From Within Students. A celebration feast will also begin at 11:30 a.m. and Closing Ceremonies will be held at 2:00 p.m.

Master of Ceremonies at the 2022 3rd Annual WSD Celebration Pow Wow is Michael Esquash Sr., a well-known traditional singer and drummer with Host Drum Group Spirit Sands. Michael shares with audiences the teachings and meanings behind the traditional dances and songs performed at Pow Wows. Stories behind the various dance styles highlighted will include traditional, jingle, grass, fancy, and many more!

WSD was established in 1871 and currently has 78 schools, 33,000 students and 6,000 employees. Its purpose is to provide a learning environment that fosters the growth of each student’s potential and provide equitable opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and values necessary for meaningful participation in a global and diverse society.
