Thirsty for Fair 2

To spread awareness of the importance of Fair Trade and local producers, Tec-Voc High School hosted an event called “Thirsty for Fair” on November 30, 2023. This event was a collaboration between the Tec-Voc Fair Trade & Sustainability Committee, Culinary Arts, Pastry Arts, Business Management, and Business Communications. The school holds yearly events to educate students on Fair Trade and local producers, as well as celebrating our FairTrade designation.

In the morning, students were able to get free Fair-Trade banana smoothies and muffins in the cafeteria. At lunch, students could get free Fair-Trade coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, and a Fair Trade and local producer-themed lunch from the cafeteria.

Students were able to educate themselves on Fair Trade and local producers by visiting our Fair-Trade website www.tecvoc.ca/thirstyforfair or by viewing the many educational posters.

Fairtrade transforms global trade by ensuring better prices, better working conditions, and a fairer deal for farmers and workers in developing countries. This empowers them to have greater control over their lives and make informed decisions about their future, and it promotes environmental practices. Local producers are individuals who live and produce nearby to where they are selling their products, contributing significantly to our community's economy and employment opportunities.
