Winnipeg School Divisions Pow Wow: Maple & Wild-berry Rice Pudding

We're excited to share a special story from this year's Winnipeg School Divisions Pow Wow: Maple & Wild-berry Rice Pudding by Tec-Voc student Julius Sumner-Peebles. Julius collaborated with various departments including STEP, graphics, and culinary arts to create this delicious treat. He embarked on a journey of recipe refinement, testing multiple iterations until achieving perfection. Incorporating mathematics, he meticulously calculated the recipe's costs, both per sample and for the grand total of 7000 servings. Furthermore, Julius delved into the English aspect of the project, crafting the sample write-up and designing the stickers used by teachers to introduce the treats to their groups during snack time.

This story continues when he took the spirit plate (from the elders' lunch we catered) to be blessed at the grand entrance, and then, as a group, we brought it to a perfect tree while the sun shone and we shared some tobacco and time respecting our ancestors.

Later in the day, his grandfather, who was a chef, came by, and it was such a pleasure to share Julius’s achievements and some rice pudding!
