Tec-Voc High School Commemorates World Food Day with Awareness Event

October 9, 2024
World Food Day

On Wednesday, October 16th, Tec-Voc High School’s Fair Trade & Sustainability Committee, in collaboration with the Culinary Arts program, will host a special World Food Day Awareness Event from 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM. The event is designed to raise awareness about global food insecurity and to promote sustainable food practices.

During the event, the Hornet Cafe will offer freshly made Cabbage Roll and Cream of Potato soup for $2.00 per 12 oz serving and $5.00 for 1 litre (while quantities last). All proceeds will go toward the Tec-Voc Holiday Hampers, which provide essential support to families in need during the holiday season. The school also extends its gratitude to Peak of the Market for their generous donation of fresh produce for the event.

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to engage in the interactive "Mapping Hunger: The Story Behind Our Food" activity. This challenge encourages participants to identify countries that supply everyday food items but continue to face hunger and poverty within their own communities. The student with the highest score will win a gift certificate to the Hornet Cafe.

This event presents an excellent opportunity for Tec-Voc students and staff to come together, learn about critical global food issues, and contribute meaningfully to both local and global efforts to combat hunger.
