School Purpose/Vision & Priorities

June 10, 2026

A school's mission or vision statement need to answer the question, what do we aspire for our students? The foundation for our vision/mission statement is stated in the Moral Purpose and the Guiding Question from the Winnipeg School Division's Strategic Plan and looking at our local context at WAEC.

Winnipeg School Division's Strategic Plan 2025-2030

Moral Purpose
Winnipeg School Division provides a learning environment that fosters the growth of every learner’s potential  and provides equitable opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, and ways of being necessary  for nurturing a just, sustainable, and democratic society where everyone belongs, thrives, and is included.

Guiding Question
What are the most powerful actions WSD can take to ignite and cultivate paths to the good life, Mino-Pimatisiwin, for all learners, particularly those most underserved?

“Our goal at WAEC is to create a safe, equitable and welcoming community, where our diverse learners will feel a sense of belonging, acceptance and connection. Learners will grow in self-efficacy, self-confidence, well-being and become life-long learners as they discover and fulfill their purpose. Students will build their knowledge, skills and understanding to achieve their educational, employment or personal goals with success and excellence in pursuit of the “good life”.”

We keep at the forefront of our planning for our students and staff the four questions. All learners, students and staff, need to feel they belong and that they can succeed. They need to feel safe and feel that they have choice and responsibility to find their own purpose. To achieve “the Good Life” (Mamàhtawisiwin 2023) our learners must be able to connect their past, their goals for the future, and their purpose.

School Priorities

Our priority areas guide our work and learning at WAEC with a focus on student success and the "the Good Life".

  1. Academic Achievement
  2. Career and Personal Development
  3. Indigenous Education and Truth and Reconciliation
  4. Student Engagement
