Winnipeg Adult Education Centre Empowers Learners Through Innovative Micro Credential Training
March 17, 2026
The Winnipeg Adult Education Centre (WAEC) has continued its commitment to workforce‑ready education by delivering a comprehensive, multi‑day Micro Credential training initiative designed to equip adult learners with practical, job‑focused skills. This recent event, held across WAEC campuses on March 12th and 13th, attracted hundreds of students and demonstrated the school’s dedication to aligning adult education with real labour‑market needs.
A Large‑Scale Skills‑Focused Initiative
According to information shared by the Winnipeg School Division, WAEC hosted a two‑day micro‑credential event attended by approximately 300 adult students, representing multiple campuses including the Isbister campus, Adult Learning Centres, and the Adolescent Parents Centre. The initiative was designed to help learners gain certifications that employers actively seek in today’s competitive job market. Principal Dino Di Fabrizio emphasized that the program’s purpose was to “give our students an edge in the job market,” with each certification serving as evidence of targeted, job‑ready skills.
Strong Community Partnerships Enhance Training Quality
WAEC’s micro‑credential program succeeded in part due to its extensive collaboration with community and industry partners. These included the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg, the Manitoba Adult Literacy Training Initiative, Food and Beverage Association, Canadian Mental Health Association, Manitoba Public Insurance, Cambrian Credit Union, Film Manitoba, MadLib Casting and the Manitoba Tourism Education Council (MTEC). Planning occurred over several months to coordinate facilitators, ensure industry alignment, and curate courses that fit within the two‑day intensive schedule.
A Diverse Range of Job‑Relevant Certifications
WAEC consulted with students and community partners to build a roster of courses offering direct certification outcomes. Because the training window was condensed, only short courses that could be completed efficiently were selected. Visit our booklet for more information about the programming offered. A Continued Commitment to Student Success
The success of WAEC’s recent micro‑credential event reinforces the centre’s vision of delivering education that truly meets learners where they are. Through strong partnerships, thoughtful course selection, and a focus on practical, recognized certifications, WAEC is helping adult learners build confidence, expand their knowledge, and prepare for future work opportunities.
