Chemistry 30S

This is a course designed to deepen understanding of chemistry through the study of the properties of chemicals and chemical bonds; chemical reactions and quantitative relationships in those reactions; solutions and solubility; and atmospheric chemistry and the behaviour of gases.

 It is intended to prepare students for scientific study, inquiry, and understanding interactions of matter. The course lays foundations necessary for future studies in chemistry and the sciences and science-related courses.

Chemistry 40S

This course is designed to prepare students for further study in chemistry at the university level and to develop the attitudes and abilities that enable students to become informed decision makers who are knowledgeable about the role of chemistry in the world. Students will develop skills for the safe handling of materials, observation and measurement, and effective problem solving.

 Topics covered in the course include: atomic structure, equilibrium, acids and bases, electrochemistry and aqueous reactions.
