Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
May 14, 2026
At Harrow, we are proud to implement PBIS (Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports) as a foundation for our school culture.
PBIS is a proactive, school-wide approach designed to create a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment for all students. PBIS focuses on clearly defining, teaching, and reinforcing expected behaviours so that positive choices occur throughout the school.
At Harrow, behavioural expectations are explicitly taught in all areas of the school, including classrooms, hallways, washrooms, and other shared spaces. Students participate in Shared Spaces Training four times each school year (September, October, January, and April), and expectations are reinforced year-round through visual reminders displayed throughout the building and common language used by all staff.
Our goal is to support every student in achieving social, emotional, and academic success. PBIS helps us achieve this by:
- Clearly teaching expected behaviours
- Recognizing and reinforcing positive choices
- Using data to identify areas where additional support may be needed
- Provide a continuum of supports at the school-wide, classroom, and individual levels
Central to our PBIS framework is our HAWKS anchor, which reflects the core values we promote within our school community. HAWKS stands for:
- Helpful
- Active Learners
- Working Together
- Kind
- Safe
We celebrate students who demonstrate these values and encourage all learners to consistently strive to be their best selves.
Looking ahead to the 2026-2027 school year, students will have the opportunity to earn HAWKS tickets when they are "caught" demonstrating these positive behaviours. Additional information about this initiative will be shared in the fall.
Through PBIS, Harrow School continues to foster a positive, inclusive environment where al students can thrive.
