Welcome Back 2026/27
September 3, 2026
WELCOME BACK MESSAGE
Dear Norquay Families,
We hope you had a wonderful summer filled with outdoor adventures, time with loved ones, and a chance to relax. As we prepare for the start of the school year, we are thrilled to welcome both new and returning families to the Norquay School community. We cannot wait to see our Eagles back in the halls and hear all about their summer memories!
Our staff returns on Tuesday, September 8 for a day dedicated to professional learning, connection, and building our school community. Every decision we make is intentional, with a continuous focus on creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment where every student feels they belong and can thrive.
Strong partnerships between students, families, and staff are the foundation of a successful school year. We are deeply grateful for your trust and look forward to working closely with you to support your child’s learning, confidence, and well-being.
As the first day approaches, it is completely natural for students to feel a mix of excitement and nerves about new routines, teachers, and classmates. Reassuring them that a new school year is a fresh start - an opportunity to build friendships, embrace new challenges, and grow - helps set a positive tone for the year ahead.
On behalf of the entire staff, welcome back! We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to celebrating another wonderful year of Eagle Pride together.
MEET THE TEACHER - Tuesday, September 8 3:30 - 5:00
We welcome all families to join us from 3:30 - 5:00 on Tuesday. Find out what class your child is in, who their teacher is and meet our wonderful Norquay Staff. Please feel free to bring your indoor shoes, backpack and other supplies to leave in your classroom!
NEW FAMILIES TO NORQUAY SCHOOL - START DATE
We are currently processing registrations that were received over the summer. Families who are new to the school will receive a phone call from our Learning Support Team to arrange an intake meeting between Wednesday, September 9th and Friday, September 11th. School start dates will be provided at the intake meeting. All new families are required to have an intake meeting prior to starting.
SCHOOL FEES FOR SUPPLIES
The cost will be $30.00 per child and includes all supplies, a backpack, a school t-shirt (in January), and other classroom extras. More information will be sent home Tuesday.
SCHOOL DROP OFF AND PICK UP
School Staff begin work at 8:45 am daily. There will be no supervision prior to this time.
Families are reminded that drop off or arrival to school should not be before 8:45 am and dismissal is at 3:30 pm.
LUNCH PROGRAM CHANGES
As we prepare for the new school year, please review the following details regarding our lunch hour structure, eligibility, and expectations.
- All students who attend Day Care at Eagle Wing will be returning to Eagle Wing for lunch daily.
- The Norquay School Nutrition Program is pleased to offer a take-home lunch option for students who eat at home.
Grace Period & Registration
To assist families during the transition back to school, all students (with the exception of Eagle Wing Daycare students) are welcome to stay for lunch until Wednesday, September 16. After this date, only registered students may remain at school for lunch.
Note: All students who ride the school bus are automatically registered in the Lunch Program. All other students staying for lunch must have a completed registration on file.
Eligibility & Attendance
The Lunch Program is designed for Grade K–6 students who are unable to go home due to distance or parent/guardian work schedules.
Grades K–6: Students who are able to eat at home should do so, returning to school grounds just before the 1:55 PM bell.
Grades 7 & 8: Students are expected to go home for lunch unless they are bussed. If special circumstances require your Grade 7 or 8 student to stay at school, please contact the office directly to make arrangements.
Non-Lunch Students: Students not enrolled in the program should not return to the school yard before 1:55 PM, as staff supervision is not provided for non-lunch students prior to this time.
Schedule & Supervision
Students are supervised by Winnipeg School Division Educational Assistants throughout the hour.
Lunch & Recess Stagger: Groups will eat inside from either 1:00 PM – 1:30 PM or 1:30 PM – 2:00 PM, spending the remaining 30 minutes outdoors for fresh air and exercise (weather permitting).
Safety: Registered students must eat in designated areas and remain on school grounds for the entire lunch hour.
Creating a Positive Environment
We aim to make lunch hour a safe, enjoyable, and restful break for everyone. To maintain a supportive environment, students are expected to show the same respect for peers, staff, and school property during lunch as they do during the instructional day.
Staying at school for lunch is a safe community privilege. We work closely with students to help them practice positive behavior and follow program guidelines. Should any challenges arise, administration will connect directly with parents/guardians to partner on solutions and support the student in maintaining their spot in the program.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe and organized. Registration forms will be sent home on Tuesday and are available in the office.
Warmly,
Colin Bruce-Smith & Jennifer Magierowicz
