Winter Break
February 9, 2021
Schools are closed from Monday, December 21, 2020 to Friday, January 1, 2021.
‘Tis the season to be jolly, but Manitobans must continue to follow public health orders to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
In addition to staying home for the holidays, the Province of Manitoba suggests you take the following precautions to protect yourself, your loved ones and your community:
The Province of Manitoba also recommends that you don’t travel this holiday season, including to and from Manitoba, as well as within the province.
If you must travel within Canada, be aware that there may be additional public health measures at your destination.
According to the Government of Canada, Canadian citizens and permanent residents are advised to avoid all non-essential travel outside of the country.
If you do travel outside of Canada this holiday season, you will be required to self-isolate for 14 days when you return.
You get the message, stay home. But like Perry Como says, there’s no place like home for the holidays. Read a book, watch a movie, play a board game, work on a puzzle, do some arts and crafts, play charades, go for a walk or make a quinzhee. A little imagination creates endless possibilities. Give your eyes a break from screens for a while.
Stay home, stay safe and have a holly jolly holiday season!

In addition to staying home for the holidays, the Province of Manitoba suggests you take the following precautions to protect yourself, your loved ones and your community:
- Celebrate the holiday season with members of your immediate household only. Think of it this way: Pajamas, all day, every day.
- Celebrate with loved ones outside of your household by using virtual options. This way your aunt can’t pinch your cheeks.
- When delivering gifts in-person, do a physically distanced, doorstep gift exchange. Avoid using the chimney like Santa Claus. How does that guy keep his suit so clean?
- Celebrate outdoors with friends, but make sure your group doesn’t exceed five people and remember to maintain at least two metres of physical distance. Throw on a mask for good measure. Maybe even put on two, it’s cold out there.
- Consider donating to local charities. Spread cheer, not COVID.
- Stay up to date on current COVID-19 restrictions and safety measures by checking www.manitoba.ca/COVID19
