APPLICATION

Winnipeg School Division is the largest division in Manitoba and we have the most diverse student population. It’s an exciting place to work with lots of opportunities to develop your unique teaching style. And it all starts with the application online.

In addition to filling out our online application, here are the ‘must haves’ to include with your application:

  • Address your cover letter to the Director of Human Resources.
Submit your application prior to being interviewed to allow the interview team an opportunity to get to know you and your background before the interview.
  • Enclose a resume with your application.
  • Transcripts – send us an original transcript of your Education degree once you receive it (we are aware that you will not receive this prior to applying and we will add it to your file at a later date). If you currently hold one or more degrees, please submit transcripts showing this information to ensure you are paid correctly for any substitute work done in May and June.
  • On the reference forms section of the WSD application be sure to fill in the references’ name and complete mailing address and email address if known. WSD will mail these forms to your references to be completed.
  • PSP Number (Professional School Personnel) please send us a photocopy of this once you’ve received it (wallet sized card). You will receive this card once you have been granted Certification through the Department of Education. In the meantime, please indicate PENDING in this section.
Voluntary Self-Declaration Form is used for statistical purposes only - all applicants are encouraged to complete this form.

INTERVIEW

The next step in the hiring process is the interview. WSD conducts interviews by an interview team, which can seem a bit daunting but is really a chance for you to further share your enthusiasm and interest in working for the best school division in Manitoba. A member of our Human Resources team will contact you to arrange a general interview. If you have a portfolio, please bring it along and if time permits, the interview team will review it.

The general interview is our chance to find out more about you beyond your resume and application form. Come prepared with examples of your student teaching and previous work experiences.

If you are being offered employment with WSD, you will be contacted after the interview by a member of our Human Resources team.

Something to note: WSD receives a high volume of applicants and sometimes the interview process, which includes reviewing interview results, can take a few months. Human Resources will contact new grads who are selected for permanent or term positions, as well as those who may be offered employment through the WSD substitute list. If you aren’t offered employment for May, June or September, please don’t resubmit your application – we hold applications for one year from date of submission and will consider yours for future opportunities.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHING REQUIREMENTS/PROCESS

Becoming a substitute teacher with WSD is one of the most common ways our outstanding educators have started with the division. It gives you a chance to begin your teaching career while experiencing different schools and colleagues. Here are a few “must haves” to be a substitute teacher with WSD:

Criminal Record Check - you must provide an Original Criminal Record Check (we will accept a check completed within one year of hire) - a photo copy of your original is kept on file.

Child Abuse Registry - you must provide an Original Child Abuse Registry Check (we will accept a check completed within one year of hire) - a photo copy of your original is kept on file.
Have completed all course work and student teaching blocks.

Substitute teaching in May or September

New grads being offered employment will be contacted in April regarding substitute employment starting in May or September of 2016. If you aren’t offered a substitute position for the end of this school year, don’t be discouraged! Due to the volume of applicants, not all potential substitutes are contacted for May employment.
