Ralph Brown - Physical Education – Program Overview

            The Phys. ed. program at Ralph Brown will cover the 5 basic outcomes contained in the Manitoba Physical Education/Health Education Curriculum.  These are;

  1.  Movement
  2.  Fitness Management
  3.  Safety
  4.  Personal/social management
  5.  Healthy lifestyle practices

All classes from grade 1 to grade 8 will participate in the 5 outcomes outlined above, but with different expectations for each grade level. There are 31 six day cycles in the school year, and the Phys. Ed. Program will try to do a different theme/activity every two cycles. The themes will vary from traditional sports and activities such as Soccer, Volleyball, and Basketball to non-traditional activities such as Juggling and Spongee Polo Ball. Each activity will attempt to touch on all five curricular outcomes.  There will also be a strong emphasis on fitness related activities, such as the Fit Run, that will run the length of the school year at the beginning of every month.

            The Phys. Ed. Program will be enhanced by numerous extra-curricular activities, starting with Run Club and Soccer in the fall.   Speed Skating, Volleyball, Slo-Pitch, Basketball and Ultimate Football are some other athletic programs that will be offered during the school year. Intramurals will also begin in October and will continue until May.

All students are encouraged to set personal bests (P.B's) throughout the year. The goal is to find at least one activity that each student would like to pursue for a lifetime.
