Advisory
May 4, 2026
Students have one teacher for most courses, and courses are facilitated through integrated, project-based learning. The teacher they spend most of their time with is their advisor. Ideally, students will have the same advisor for multiple years.
In the timetable, specific periods throughout the week (one per day) are to be identified by each advisory for intentional focus on: 1) academic assistance, 2) life beyond school, 3) restorative justice/social justice; 4) playing games and having fun.
Advisories are all unique. They will have their own classroom cultures within the larger culture of the school. The following specialty area advisories are offered:
- Cree Bilingual (9-12)
- Ojiibwe Bilingual (9-12)
- Learning through Cultural Practice (10-12)
- Learning through the Arts (10-12)
- Real World Learning (9, 10, and 11-12)
- Real World Learning Mature Diploma Focus (11-12)
No matter what advisory students are in, one-to-one student-advisor conferences and the use of Individual Learning Plans and Portfolios are mandatory components of the student experience.
Students have many opportunities as a full school, full class, small group, or individuals to learn on the land, in the community, and in non-school traditional ways. Leaving to Learn is essential to developing a holistic understanding of the world.
