Our History & Our Future Together
May 4, 2026
Located in the heart of the North End, Children of the Earth was born out of Indigenous grassroots activism in the early 1990s because parents and the larger community wanted an Indigenous high school where Indigenous culture and language could be learned and practiced freely. Today we carry on that tradition centring on culture, language, learning our true history, and developing identity as Indigenous people. Smudge, ceremony, land, and sky guide our work.
In September 2026, the Adolescent Parent Centre will join Children of the Earth in this work. The Adolescent Parent Centre was established in 1989, combining 2 programs for adolescents parents, including one located in Point Douglas. We are proud to be bringing Adolescent Parent Centre back to Winnipeg’s North End. September 2026 also marks the beginning our extending Bilingual Programming in Cree and Ojibwe all the way to grade 12.
Children of the Earth and Adolescent Parent Centre students will learn alongside each other to thrive as themselves in the modern world according to our own traditions, so this and all of our next generations can have voice on our land in the spirit of treaty and in the spirit of landback. Our students are asking hard questions and seeking real answers; contributing to community growth and development; sounding their voices against injustice; taking control of our nations’ futures; and helping our families to know that their children are everything that’s needed to make our world better.
