Koats For Kids

September 23, 2021

Koats for Kids collects and distributes, free of charge, gently-used winter outerwear to Winnipeg families. Partners in this joint venture are United Way, CTV, 1290am CFRW, Winnipeg Sun, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, AMJ Campbell Van Lines and Perth’s.  These sponsors collectively provide support to promote the program and to collect, transport and clean the donated clothing.  The program runs from October through February.  On average, 10,000 requests are received for winter outerwear each year.

Winnipeggers are invited to drop off individual donations of children’s winter outerwear to any Perth’s location or Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Station. Larger donations can be dropped off at AMJ Campbell Van Lines at 12-1333 Niakwa Road.  The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service delivers the donated items, on a regular basis, to the Koats for Kids distribution centre, where they are sorted for repair, cleaning or disposal.  Once the coats have been cleaned, they are distributed across Winnipeg.  Since 1989 over 100,000 winter outerwear items have been distributed.

Parents can submit orders to Koats for Kids by contacting the school or daycare their child or children are enrolled.  Orders can also be placed through a United Way agency partner.  For a complete listing of agency partners, visit United Way Winnipeg.  Parents can contact Koats for Kids directly by phone at 586-KOAT (5628) or email at koats@UnitedWayWinnipeg.mb.ca.
