Moccasin Workshop
February 8, 2021
The grade 10 clothing class at Kelvin has just completed a unit making custom moccasins for themselves.
Using authentic materials and techniques, the students learned to draft original patterns based on their own feet, and added beading embellishment and fur trim to their footwear.
The resulting projects are beautiful and fully functional; warm enough for spring weather and rugged enough for uneven ground. The students now have the skills to create these in any size, and completed assignments altering the patterns to make mukluks or other styles of traditional footwear in future.
