WSD Celebrates Human Rights
February 8, 2021
Over 40 Kelvin students from grades 9 to 12 took part in the culmination of a year-long campaign launched by Mayor Brian Bowman -- a year of reconciliation. The event, "Everybody Has the Right", was a four hour long festival of song, dance, word and deed and the Forks National Historic Site. Kelvin scholars created a striking 7 foot tall silk banner highlighting symbols of various faiths and Parliament, which was paraded along the Esplanade Riel and along Water Avenue in a parade involving over 2000 Winnipeg School Division participants. Kelvin's Chamber Choir and members of the Dance Team performed for the assembled crowds, presenting pieces evoking the struggle for human rights. Members of Kelvin's human rights advocacy groups, including Spectrum, Tipi Keepers, Aboriginal Group, and HASTA were among those representing the school at the event.
