Clippers Victorious in Homecoming!
The Clippers improved their record to 2-0. The Kelvin Clippers welcomed the Vincent Massey (Brandon) Vikings to their Homecoming. The Clippers were looking to avenge a 14-11 loss to the Vikings in Brandon in 2012. The Clippers opened the scoring when quarterback Sebastian Bel threw a 49 yard touchdown strike to Anthony Dyck for a 7-0 lead. The Clipper special teams joined the scoring as well as defensive lineman David Couture blocked a Viking punt and linebacker Carter Mitchell recovered the ball in the endzone for a 14-0 lead. Bel then hooked up with receiver Griffin Shillingford on a 42 yard touchdown pass to put the Clippers up 21-0. Kicker Patrick Dott kicked the kickoff through the endzone for a single putting the Clippers up 22-0. Bel then called his own number on a 5 yard touchdown run to put the Clippers up 29-0. The Vikings then conceeded a safety to put the Clippers up 31-0 and that was the final. The Clipper offence was led by quarterback Sebastian Bel who was 6-11 passing for 201 yards and two touchdowns as well as scoring a touchdown on the ground. The defence was solid and relentless all game, pressuring the Vikings quarterback and stopping the run game. Linebacker Matt Simon led the way with 8 tackles including 3 in special teams. Defensive backs Robbie Cruz had 5 tackles including 2 on special teams and Brandon Gates added an interception.
The Clippers would like to thank Ida Albo and the staff of the Hotel Fort Garry for catering the event, Mr Lloyd, Mr Lebar, and Mr. DiCurzio for providing the play by play and colour commentary, Mr. Kun and Mr. Hamlin for helping setup the equipment for the pep rally and game, Mr. Burdeniuk and AJ Dickson for taking pictures, and the numerous parents and friends who helped make Homecoming 2013 a huge success and the fans for wearing red and white and supporting the Clippers!
