At David Livingstone School, we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation each year on September 30. This important day honours the children who never returned home and the Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.

In the weeks leading up to September 30, students engage in age-appropriate learning about the history and ongoing impacts of residential schools in Canada. We centre our learning around the message that Every Child Matters, creating space for reflection, conversation, and understanding.

Throughout the summer months, our school community also participates in weekly Thursday morning community walks to commemorate and remember. These walks provide an opportunity for students and staff to come together in a spirit of respect, reflection, and solidarity. Walking side by side reminds us that reconciliation is not just one day of recognition, but an ongoing commitment to learning, truth, and meaningful action.

At David Livingstone School, we are dedicated to fostering empathy, awareness, and a deep respect for Indigenous voices and experiences, not only on September 30, but throughout the entire school year.
