Attendance

February 4, 2021

All children are expected to come to school every day and on time.  If your child will be away from school for any reason, please call the school to let us know.

Regular attendance and punctuality contribute to a good learning environment and positive attitudes towards education.  Absences and lateness decrease learning.  A child who is absent 2 days a month is actually missing a whole month of school over the year.

Children should be in class every day unless they are sick. Staying at home to baby-sit, go shopping or visits to other communities is not considered a valid reason for absence. It is the parent’s responsibility to see that students attend school and arrive at school on time.

When your child has an unexcused absence, the classroom teacher may call to find out when they will return.  If a child misses more than 5 days in a month, or has been late more than 5 times in a month, you will receive a letter informing you of your child’s absences and lates.  Letters are sent home monthly.

The truancy officer will visit homes of students with poor attendance with the intent of bringing the child(ren) to school.

Call-Back Program

To ensure your child’s safety, we have a policy of contacting the home of any child who is absent from school.  We will phone between 9:15-9:45 a.m. and 1-1:30 p.m.  If you know in advance that your child will be away, please call and let us know before 9 a.m.
