Festival du Voyageur

February 8, 2021

Students of the Immersion française (9e année) program took part in the opening day of the Festival du Voyageur recently.  Approximately 150 jeunes-bilingues-en-herbe, led by Kelvin staff and Grade 12 Immersion mentors, took part in workshops throughout the blustery, fun-filled day.  Activities included :  snow-shoeing, weaving, and winter-weather survival, as well as presentations on blacksmithing, wood-working, and the fur-trade rivalry between the Hudson's Bay and Northwest companies.  Indigenous storytellers and Immersion graduates explained the wisdom shared by local First Nations communities with the European voyageurs and settlers like Gaboury and Lagimodière.  Students took an enthusiastic interest in a role-play recreation of an Encan de fourrures (Fur Auction), complete with authentic samples and strategic bidding .  Un gros merci aux organisateurs led by Leanne Chase, aux Mentors et aux Animateurs et Animatrices.  Joyeux Festival du Voyageur!
