Wab Kinew
February 8, 2021
On March 14, indigenous activist and community leader Wab Kinew gave an insightful talk to Kelvin's student body. He began his presentation by singing and drumming a traditional Annishinabe song which evolved into a rap about key indigenous leaders throughout history. Inspired by questions sent to him by Kelvin students, he discussed important issues such as the legacy of the residential schools, systemic racism, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Missing and Murdered women, the social conditions on indigenous reserves, etc.
Mr Kinew's discussion was engaging, informative and hopeful. After his formal presentation, he stayed for almost one hour answering individual student questions. Our school is very appreciative that Mr Kinew spent so much meaningful time with our teachers and students.
