Krista Devos

As a lifelong reader, the decision to teach English seemed obvious to me. This passion directed my studies at the Canadian Mennonite University and the University of Winnipeg. Kelvin has fostered this passion through its excellent teachers and keen students. This building has been truly formative in my own development as an English teacher.

My teaching career started in 2011 and since then my goal has been to educate the imaginations of my students through the study of literature. Along with teaching the Gr. 11 IB English course, I also teach Gr. 9-12 English courses in the regular academic program.

Morgan Gregory

I began my teaching career in Vancouver in 1997. I taught in two schools, gaining experience with the Advanced Placement program and a long-standing Gifted & Talented program. In 2001, I took a leave of absence and moved to Manitoba to complete a Master’s degree in education in curriculum and instruction with a focus on language and literacy at the University of Manitoba. In addition to my M.Ed, I hold a B.A. in English Literature and a B.Ed in Secondary teaching from the University of British Columbia.

I was offered a job at Kelvin in September of 2001 – two blocks of Math 9! It may seem odd that I accepted, but I began university with the intent of pursuing a degree in Mathematics and then a career as an Actuary. The uncertainties of Literature became more interesting to me than the uncertainties of statistics and insurance.

At Kelvin, I have been teaching IB Theory of Knowledge since 2003, IB English since 2004 and, for one year, IB Economics. I have been an IB examiner since 2011.

Outside of finding delight in Mathematics, Literature and teaching, I enjoy playing racquet sports, getting behind the wheel to explore a well-known or an unknown road and, finally, spending time with a few people who have enriched and transformed my life.

Anne-Marie Hanson

I am Anne-Marie Hanson and I am a lover of literature! While in high school I read Wuthering Heights and was bewildered by a book’s ability to awaken thoughts, ideas and feelings within me that I didn’t even know existed! This sense of wonder informed my decision to study English Literature and History at university, and the prospect of spending my days igniting this same curiosity and amazement in young minds was central to my decision to pursue Education at the University of Winnipeg. Since 2007, I have had the good fortune to teach in the English Department at Kelvin High School, allowing me the daily opportunity to share my passion with engaged students and learn from talented colleagues. I currently teach Grade 10 IB English and Grade 12 IB English, and see, first hand, that when great literature is put in students’ hands, when great questions are asked of them and of the literature, and when high expectations are maintained, students will rise to the challenge with enthusiasm and wonder. In addition to teaching in the IB Programme, I teach a variety of Grade 10-12 Academic English courses, co-lead Shakespeare Club, run Kelvin’s Holiday Breakfast Project, serve on the Awards and PD Committees and read—a lot!
