On Tuesday May 28th Lord Nelson School participated in our monthly family grouping activity. This month was our ‘Water Walk’.

This was a walk to gain understanding of how water affects people ‘s lives in Africa. Each student took part in 3 activities that focus on water. The Water Walk was to simulate the long distances that children have to walk everyday to collect water. Each student carried a 4 litre jug of water around the perimeter of the field to understand how this would feel. The groups also learnt about water usage. There is approximately 6 litres of water available per person per day in Africa. The groups took one 4 Litre jug and discussed how we could best use just this one jug for all our daily needs. Finally the groups spent time reading and journaling. At this time the groups discussed what they had learnt about the day and the importance of the activity.

We also had a fundraising goal of $ 500.00 to donate to Unicef. Lord Nelson Students raised a total of $653.38. With this money Unicef can purchase a water pump for a community in Africa through which they will gain access to clean water and improved sanitation. Thank you for all of your donations!
