After School Art Club at Lord Nelson
February 8, 2021

The Aboriginal Group of Seven were a famous group of artists who were brought together by Daphne Odjig. On Thursdays at Lord Nelson, through to Spring Break, Artists and teacher Ms. Lafournaise works with a group of over 30 students in grades 4-6 to create art inspired by the group. Jackson Beardy has been an inspiration. The program has been funded by Manitoba Tourism, Culture, Sport and Consumer Protection. The program is open to all students.
In this student project, made of pastel, marker and tempera paint, you can see the influence of Plains Indigenous culture and Asian Art. Children looked at the astrological symbol of the horse because of Chinese and Vietnamese New Year and the Year of the Horse. The colorful horses are hybrid: truly representative of the multi-cultural group of families at Lord Nelson School.
