Wellington School Library

It is impossible to miss the large expanse of the Wellington School Library. The library is centrally located in a large open area immediately adjacent to the main office of the school. Every student in the school has the privilege of visiting the library at least once a school cycle to choose books from the vast array of titles available. Computer stations are readily available for those students who wish to search for specific titles or subject areas. The classroom teachers are invited to utilize the books, computers, magazines, and other resources to enhance their unit studies and research projects.

Wellington School has been extremely fortunate to receive the Indigo Love of Reading Fund. Wellington School will receive $ 50,000 a year for the next three years. The funds are devoted to books and resources to help enhance literacy. The Indigo Love of Reading Fund has selected ten schools across Canada to support and Wellington School is one of the successful schools. In November of 2007 we formally celebrated our literacy focus in a school wide assembly. We invited Al Simmons to help us in our celebration. Al Simmons’ animated and energetic performance at our school created immense excitement and motivation for literacy at Wellington. Our library and every classroom will be enriched by this grant. In addition to that, every student in the school will visit the local Chapters’ outlet to choose a book of their own.

Wellington School Library also administrates a Home Reading Program which reaches out to all students in the school. Incentives are provided for students to regularly take books home to read with their families. This has proven to be a successful program for the students in our school.
