Remote Learning Extended for the Rest of 2020-2021

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Manitoba Education and Manitoba Public Health have announced that remote learning

for Kindergarten to Grade 12 students in Winnipeg will continue to the end of the school

year. This is being done to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 among students and

staff.

We recognize that continued remote learning poses some difficulty and can result in an

increased sense of disconnection for our students from both their friends, their teachers

and their community. It’s very important for your children to continue to engage with

their end of year learning to help with assessments and preparedness for the next

school year.

The province has advised us that beginning June 14, Kindergarten to Grade 12

students learning remotely from home may be invited to schools during scheduled times

for in-person support, clinical support, assessments and transition planning. Winnipeg

School Division schools will reserve this in-person support for students who may need

that extra contact before the end of the school year. Teachers will reach out to those

students’ parents/guardians in the coming weeks to make these arrangements, where

possible and needed.

With the exception of those selected in-person meetings, remote learning will continue

for the next three weeks as it has been since May 12.

This isn’t the school year any of us envisioned when we began last September, even

with the continued global pandemic. Everyone, from students to teachers to school staff

and bus drivers have been doing what they can to make the best of a very unusual

school year. Everyone at Winnipeg School Division is hoping for a return to a more

normal schedule by this fall or soon after. Thank you for your support for your school

and your patience as we make our way through these final weeks of 2020/2021.
