EGVS vision for French Immersion:
As of the new school year 2026/2027, our French Immersion Program will include Nursery to Grade 8 instead of Kindergarten to Grade 8.
The French Immersion Program offers students the opportunity to become confident and proficient in French. Through daily instruction in French across core subject areas, students develop strong language skills in speaking, reading, and writing while mastering the full academic curriculum.
Beyond language acquisition, the program promotes cultural awareness, global understanding, and cognitive flexibility. Students benefit from an immersive environment that strengthens communication skills, critical thinking, and academic achievement. Graduates of the program are well-prepared for future educational pathways in bilingual and multicultural settings.

The Manitoba government has created a document on a renewed vision for the French Immersion Program in this province. This document will guide the future direction of French Immersion in the province of Manitoba as it lays the current foundation for a renewed French Immersion Program. It is the province’s goal that all educators, parents and students understand their shared responsibility in fostering a rich French Immersion experience that will develop students’ French language proficiency, academic success and cultivate a plurilingual identity.
