MYRCA BOOK CLUB 2023/2024

Fall 2023 marks the beginning of the fourth year of Lansdowne’s annual MYRCA book club. MYRCA stands for Manitoba Young Readers Choice Awards and every year since 1990, the MYRCA committee considers and nominates 18-20 Canadian novels written in English and intended for audiences ages 10 to 14 years of age. Students from across Manitoba read and vote for their favorite nominated books and winners are announced at an award ceremony. MYRCA book club at Lansdowne is optional for students in grades 5 through 8. Last year, Lansdowne’s MYRCA book club had 107 members in grades 5 through 8 and they read the equivalent of 451 novels in addition to their assigned school reading. They also were able to participate in a visit and animated reading of one of the books written by a local author.
