What Does Parent Council Do

What Does the Parent Council Do?

The main objectives of the Parent Council are to foster enthusiasm, school spirit and facilitate communication between families, teachers and the community.  The Parent Council also supports the school’s fundraising efforts in order to ensure the best supports for our teaching staff, educational programs and environment for our students.

The LRPC is made up of parents, family members, school staff and others who are committed to the idea that children benefit the most from their school experience when families and schools work together in partnership.

It is involved in a number of projects and activities to assist parents and caregivers in helping children achieve their full potential which includes:

  1. Ensuring ongoing communication with the school administration and staff. Fundraising activities and helping the school to obtain funds through grants
  2. Offering our parents and caregivers educational workshops and information sessions
  3. Operating a supervised lunch program with full-time and casual spots
  4. Keeping parents informed of School Division policies and decisions that directly affect their children
  5. Offering community opinion on proposed School Division policies and curriculum (via our South End Advisory Committee)
  6. Contributing to various school activities.  Organizing a Family Fun Barbecue.  Fundraising LRPC raises money for a number of school initiatives.  Some of these include: Books for classrooms, classroom field trips, Grade 6 Farewell, etc.  The more money we raise, the more projects and activities we can fund!
