Commemorative Tree (June 4, 2020)
A commemorative tree was planted in honour of the 100th anniversary of École Robert H. Smith School on June 4th. Francine Maynard enlisted the help of Parent Advisory Group (ESD Chair) Julie Garcia to identify the type of tree that would thrive on the site. Julie selected a Linden tree.
In a brief ceremony, Nancy Hodgson turned the soil with a shovel painted in school colours, blue and gold. She said, “This tree is being planted to honour the one hundredth anniversary of Robert H. Smith School.” Nancy went on to comment that “Trees represent ongoing life. Robert H. Smith has been here at this site for 100 years, and we hope that this tree will still be here at the school’s 200th anniversary.”
Principal, Andrea Powell, noted the significance of Nancy Hodgson planting the tree: “Nancy was a former student, a parent of several children who attended the school, and now a colleague of ours as our learning support teacher.”
