First Ever Trip to Montreal and Quebec City for Sisler Students

February 4, 2021

This past Spring Break, ten Sisler students got to experience our nation’s history in two of the best cities in Canada. Sisler teacher Ms Petryshyn organized the History Department’s first-ever trip to Montreal and Quebec City.

Sisler students represented Manitoba on the trip, which also included students from California and Tennessee. Ms Petryshyn worked with EF tours, who facilitated the tours and accommodations. Mr Crawford, a teacher at Sisler, acted as Chaperone. Special thanks to Laurence Coulombe, Jude Drory, and Stephanie Reid from EF tours for all of their help and tour expertise.
During the tour, students travelled to Old Montreal, the Biodome, Notre-Dame Basilica, Chateau Frontenac, the Champlain Statue, Montmorency Falls, the Olympic Tower via Funicular, Jacques-Cartier Square, the Archaeology and History Museum, Ste-Anne-de-Beaupre Basilica, dined at the Chocolate Shop in Ile D’Orleans and the Sugar Shack in Erabliere du Lac Beauport. They also experienced an exciting re-enactment of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham.
Sister student Rhea Resendes said of the trip:

"For most students (myself included) spring break represents a time of relaxation and fun! It’s a place where homework doesn’t exist and no one has even heard of exams. This year, for a few others, and myself spring break was all that and more. We had the opportunity to travel to Montreal and Quebec city. It was a week of learning about Canada’s rich history, making new friends, and eating delicious food!"

Students had an amazing trip along with the American students in their tour group. Biggest thanks go out to Sisler’s Administration, the Winnipeg School Division, EF Tours, the Teachers, and Mr Shedden, Department Head of History at Sisler. Most importantly, students would like to thank their Parents/Guardians, without whose support this trip would never have happened.
