PBIS
July 19, 2022
Last year, École Stanley Knowles School became a PBIS school. PBIS stands for “Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports”.
PBIS is a system of support for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create a positive school environment. The purpose of school-wide PBIS is to establish a climate in which appropriate behavior is the norm.
PBIS helps students by defining very clearly the desired behaviors in each part of the school, by training students in these behaviors, by rewarding positive behavior and by gathering data on challenging areas in order to work on targeted solutions.
All PBIS expectations at ÉSKS are based on the following anchors:
- Be a learner
- Be responsible
- Be safe
- Be respectful
PBIS implementation includes school-wide training in common areas such as hallways, the office, washrooms, the centrum, lunchrooms, stairs, etc. This year, formal training took place in September with a refresher in January. Reminders are posted on attractive posters throughout the school. There have been several “Bravo” blitzes where students exhibiting positive behavior were rewarded with ballots for exciting prize draws.
The goal of PBIS at ÉSKS is to establish the behavioral supports needed for all students to achieve social, emotional and academic success, and to become positive members of the school community.
