May 1 to 5 is Healthy Minds Week in Winnipeg School Division. Now in its eighth year, Healthy Minds Week is an event devoted to recognizing and promoting mental health and wellness among students, families, staff, and the community.

May1 – Mindful Monday 

As part of your school planning day on May 1, 2023 the Healthy Minds Week Committee is excited to offer mental health and wellness professional development, activities and information sessions throughout the day. We encourage individuals or school teams to engage in one or more of the learning opportunities which promote mental health and wellness for your staff and school communities. May 2 – Thankful Tuesday 

Healthy Minds Youth Wellness Alliance Wellness Resource Fair and Information Sessions for Caregivers
Grant Park High School 5:15 to 8:30 p.m.

Join us for a Wellness Resource Fair highlighting a variety of the amazing mental health and wellness resources and supports for youth, parents/ guardians and community members. There will also be free information sessions on many topics’ areas, some of which are:

  • The Dangers of the Online World 
  • Understanding Childhood Anxiety
  • Understanding Childhood Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • How to Support your Trans or Gender Diverse Child 

And much more!

May 3 – Wellness Wednesday

4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Youth Employment Services Manitoba and Community Financial Counselling Services are partnering with Winnipeg School Division to bring service providers directly to students and their families for Healthy Minds Week. Two service-provider fairs, hosted by Children of the Earth High School and Elmwood High School, will provide families with the opportunity to receive their Social Insurance Numbers, Birth certificates, bank accounts, RESPs to claim the Canada Learning Bonds and more. Families will also have the chance to connect with community resource providers to take advantage of the supports they offer.

May 4 – Thoughtful Thursday

May 5 – Friendship Friday 

National Day of Awareness for MMIWG2S

May 5, 2023 is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirit People. Sacred fires will be lit at Argyle Alternative and Tec Voc  High Schools. Students, staff, families and community members may be deeply and personally impacted of this awareness, and we ask you to have conversations with Guidance, Clinicians,  Resource and Indigenous Graduation Support Teachers on how best to approach this on a school basis. A gentle reminder, Healthy Minds Week takes place May 1 to 5, and additional resources are available for you. Please note, some students, staff and other community members may choose to wear red on this day, and if so, should be welcomed and supported. Below are some helpful resources.
