Grade 9 Mathematics 

 This course is a one-credit course.  Grade 9 Mathematics is a foundation course to prepare students for multiple possible pathways in Grades 10 to 12.  Topics include: 

 Proportions • Rational Numbers I • Statistics • Rational Numbers II • Symmetry and Surface • Area • Powers and Exponents • Polynomials • Square Roots • Pythagorean Theorem • Equations • Graphing Relations • Circle Geometry
 

Students will also learn about the appropriate use of technology including, scientific calculators, computer software, graphing calculators, tablets, and the inter-active whiteboard.

Essential Mathematics 

Essentials Mathematics 20S (grade 10)
Essentials Mathematics 30S (grade 11)
Essentials Mathematics 40S (grade 12) 

Each course is a one-credit course. The Essential Mathematics courses demonstrate how to use mathematics in everyday life. Students will be exposed to applications that they will likely encounter in day-to-day life (perhaps now and definitely in the future!). 

These courses emphasize consumer applications, problem solving, decision making, and spatial sense. Students are expected to work both individually and in discussion groups on mathematical concepts and skills that are encountered in everyday life in a technological society.

Applied Mathematics 

Introduction to Applied and Pre-Calculus Mathematics 20S (grade 10)
Applied Mathematics 30S (grade 11)
Applied Mathematics 40S (grade 12) 

Each course is a one-credit course. Applied Mathematics is intended for students considering post-secondary studies that do not require a study of theoretical calculus. These courses emphasize the learning of numerical and geometrical problem-solving techniques as they relate to the world around us. The primary goals of Applied Mathematics are to have students develop critical-thinking skills through problem solving and the mathematical modeling of real-world situations in order to make predictions. Technology use includes scientific calculators, computer software, internet,  graphing calculators, tablets, and the inter-active whiteboard.

Pre-Calculus Mathematics

Introduction to Applied and Pre-Calculus Mathematics 20S (grade 10)
Pre-Calculus Mathematics 30S (grade 11)
Pre-Calculus Mathematics 40S (grade 12) 

Each course is a one-credit course.  

Pre-Calculus Mathematics is designed for students who intend to study calculus and related mathematics as part of post-secondary education. The course comprises a high-level study of theoretical mathematics with an emphasis on problem solving and mental mathematics. The topics include study of algebra, quadratic functions, reciprocal functions, and trigonometry. Due to the rigorous nature of Pre-Calculus Mathematics, permission of the instructor is required before enrolling in these courses.
