Grade 3/4 - Ms. Jenelle - Room 210

March 18, 2024

Welcome to Room 210 Grade 3/4!

My name is Jenelle Varis, and I am very excited to be a part of the Pinkham Family this year. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child this school year. I believe every classroom is its own unique community, where students should be provided with the opportunity to learn through their own curiosity in teacher guided activities. My goal as a teacher is to ensure that each day I enter the classroom with an open mind, positive attitude and high expectations for my students. With hopes that these traits I portray will be reflect in my students.

English language Arts:
Students will participate in Daily 5 activities. Daily 5 consists of 5 stations; Read to Self, Read to a Buddy, Word Work, Guided Reading and Listening to Reading. As a class students will also have the opportunity to take part in novel studies. All these activities will help to build community in the class and help students to develop essential reading skills.
Math:
This year many topics in Math will be explored. We will focus on numerous methods to help strengthen mathematic confidence and skills in students through the use of thinking classrooms, hands-on practice, game-based learning and group tasks.

Social Studies & Science:
Using inquiry and investigation students will be provided the opportunity to attain a vast understanding of the world we live in and the communities that are a part of it. Students will take part in experiments and research projects to gain a greater knowledge on structures, forces, plants and much more!

Health:
Using the program kids in the know, students will explore multiple topics including safety of self and others. Students have started learning about growth mindset, as it will be a fundamental part of our classroom. Growth mindset will aid in creating a positive and resilient community in our classroom. Throughout the year we will be readdressing emotional and social learning through the schools C.A.R.E. model.

Attendance is crucial for your child to have a successful academic year. Please ensure that your child is at school at time. If your child will be away or late, please notify the school as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns throughout the school year, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to an amazing year with you and your child,

Jenelle Varis
