Learning Resource

The Resource team works closely with school administration, teaching staff and other specialists to provide support for student learning, particularly in the areas of reading, writing and mathematics.

Some of these responsibilities include:

  • Consultation, collaborative planning and/or co-teaching with classroom teachers
  • Providing resources and materials
  • Working closely with educational assistants to create, deliver and monitor programming and supports
  • Short-term small group or individual tutoring sessions, such as reading intervention
  • Referrals to, and consultations with, Child Guidance Clinic (CGC), Diagnostic Learning Centre (DLC), Special Education Department (SED) and other agencies as needed
  • Establishment and coordination of volunteer programs
  • Establishment of cross-age and peer-tutoring programs
  • Assist with placement and referral decisions to divisional programs eg. Diagnostic Learning Centre (DLC), Early Childhood Education Centre (ECLC)
  • Participate in and/or lead professional development activities
  • Assist with planning, programming and assessment for identified special education students
  • Assist in planning and implementing special age and grade-specific programs, such as School to Work program and Roots of Empathy
  • Liaising between schools and programs for students in transition (ie. students transferring to different schools/programs, students moving to junior high school from Grade 6, etc.)
