Dear Parents, the Winnipeg School Division has developed a policy on livestreaming which involves the broadcasting of live lessons in real time where students are present in the classroom as well as students learning from home. This model may also include recordings that are posted to the platform for other students to view.
Due to the special nature of live streaming activities, parents/guardians must consent to their child being photographed, videotaped, or recorded as part of the classroom learning activities. During live streaming lessons the webcam in your home should be positioned in such a way that it only captures your child's image when they are participating in the live streaming.
Your child has brought home a permission slip that must be signed and returned to sthe school in order for him/her to engage in livestreaming lessons. If you did not receive this form, you do have the option to complete it online at the following link:
Please submit your permission slip or complete the online form before January 4th in order to ensure your child's learning continues without interruption.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Also the Winnipeg School Division has sent out a message regarding the Winter break. The link is attached.
Have a great and safe winter break and we will see you in the new year!
Regards,
Mrs. Guzzi

Dear Families,
Please be reminded that Ralph Brown School is providing in class learning during this restricted orange response period. As we continue to plan for future Manitoba Public Health announcements regarding a "Critical" (Red) response level under the Manitoba Pandemic Response System, schools in Winnipeg School Division will do their best to accommodate Nursery to Grade 6 children of critical services workers, where alternative care arrangements are not available. Those who are considered critical workers must inform the school office no later than Monday November 23rd.

Dear Parents and Guardians:
The Minister of Education announced on Monday, November 9, 2020 that three additional non-instructional days are being added to the school calendar for the 2020-2021 school year so that schools can focus on collaborative planning as we shift and adapt to remote learning. While Ralph Brown School doesn't currently require remote learning, we must be prepared in the event the Province moves schools to Critical Red Level. Two of these days must be scheduled prior to the Winter Break which starts on December 21, 2020. The third is to be scheduled after the Winter Break.
Winnipeg School Division will institute two days common across the division on Monday, November 30 and Monday, December 7.
The work being done in our school by teaching and support staff has been extraordinary. Collaboration is one of our strengths and a teaching method we both rely on and use extensively in our school, however, the demands of student safety, preparation of remote learning packages and other COVID-19 related responsibilities have made collaboration for education purposes more difficult.
Our teachers and support staff are embracing these additional non-instructional days in the spirit intended by the Department of Education. Our top priority is ensuring that student learning, whether in the classroom or at home, is meeting the needs of our students and our provincial curriculum.
Thank you for your support of Ralph Brown School and our community.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Rosanna Guzzi

A note to all Critical Services Workers:
In the future, if Manitoba Public Health shifts schools in the Metro Winnipeg region to a "Critical" (Red) response level under the Manitoba Pandemic Response System, schools in Winnipeg School Division will endeavour to accommodate Nursery to Grade 6 children of critical services workers, where alternative care arrangements are not feasible.
School divisions will take all necessary measures to accommodate children of critical services workers with a view to safety and available resources, while maintaining two metres of physical distancing.
Tier One critical services workers will be eligible to have children accommodated in school. They will be prioritized by schools/school divisions. Following accommodation of Tier One, divisions will then accommodate additional critical services workers in Tier Two.
If you are a critical services worker for whom alternate care arrangements are not feasible, and you require your child(ren) to attend school please notify the school and we will provide you the required forms to be completed.
Regards,
R. Guzzi

Dear Parents/Guardians, Caregivers,

October 23, 2020
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Manitoba Education has announced that as of Monday, October 26, all schools in the Winnipeg region, which includes our school, will start operating in the Restricted (orange) level of the Pandemic Response System (PRS). Although schools have not been a source of transmission of the COVID virus, the department is looking at ways to ensure transmission remains minimal.
This means schools must take the following measures:
- As much as possible, we have ensured there are two metres between students and staff.
- Two cohorts have been re-located to larger rooms
- K-8 students may be offered temporary remote learning for the duration of the Restricted level (orange) to create additional space, where required.
- Extracurricular activities are only permitted if the required distances can be followed and everyone is following Public Health guidelines.
- Staff who move between student cohorts will wear medical masks.
- Indoor choirs and the use of wind instruments are not permitted.
- Field trips are postponed or cancelled.
Winnipeg School Division is in daily contact with Manitoba Education and Manitoba Health and will keep families informed of any new information as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your continued support throughout these changing times.

The fridge magnets have arrived! These magnets have a QR code that will take you directly to the screening tool.
The cold weather is coming! It is increasingly important for you to screen your child(ren) before they come to school.
Pre-screening at home will reduce the wait time we spend outside screening students. This is especially crucial during the cold winter months. Your child will bring a Rocket Fridge magnet home on Tuesday. We encourage you to place your magnet on your refrigerator door or somewhere convenient for you to scan each morning.
Feel free to contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.

Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,
Each of us continue to have a significant role in helping to support public health measures and reduce the spread of COVID-19.
As we head into the first holiday long weekend of the school year, I want to encourage you to consider how many people outside your household you have contact with. I hope you will celebrate Thanksgiving responsibly, so that we can limit the spread of the virus in our communities, and by extension, in our schools.
Dr. Roussin has encouraged Manitobans, and those visiting from out of province, to focus on the fundamentals to help stop the spread of COVID-19. This includes:
- staying home if you're sick, even if your symptoms are only mild;
- washing/sanitizing your hands frequently;
- covering your cough;
- practicing physical distancing when you are with people outside of your household; and
- wearing a mask in indoor public spaces in situations where you cannot physically distance, or as required by public health orders.
On behalf of all the teachers and staff at Ralph Brown School, I hope you have a restful and meaningful Thanksgiving.

Parents are required to screen their children every morning before coming to school. With the weather turning to cooler and wetter conditions, it is important that students are screened so that classes can enter the school immediately upon arrival. If your child is sick please have them stay home and refer to the pink information sheet that was handed out last week or call the office for more information about when your child can return to school. Please be reminded that students must arrive screened no sooner than 8:50 am and 12:55 pm.
Phys-Ed classes continue to be held outside and some teachers are still taking advantage of the outdoor learning spaces. Please remind your child to wear a jacket or warm sweater everyday.
October 7th is Picture Day. The link below is a video that outlines some of the procedures being implemented to ensure all safety protocols are in place. This year we will not be taking group/class photos. Only individual student photos will be made available.

Parent Council Advisory

Dear Ralph Brown Families and Community Partners,
On Thursday July 30th, the Minister of Education announced that students will be returning to school on September 8th, 2020.
We are very excited to have our students back at school this fall, and we are now planning and preparing for their return.
If you are wondering about the most recent Winnipeg School Division updates, I invite you to explore the parents/pandemic planning link, found on the Winnipeg School Division website. There you will find further links/resources that can answer some of your questions, and offer information to support your child with the return to school.
As we continue to receive updates, we will do our very best to keep our families informed by posting updates to the Ralph Brown School website and/or the automated message system through phone and email. It is important that we have your updated contact information so that you are able to receive these messages. If you have changed your phone number or email address, please call the school to provide your most current contact information. You may leave a message and someone will return your call when the office is open.
We are excited about re-establishing our connections with our students and their families. We hope that you and your families are enjoying a safe, healthy and active summer and are eager to return to our Rocket family! We can’t wait to have you back!
Best Wishes,
