Hello and thank you for visiting our school’s website.

Welcome to Sister MacNamara School.  Our school is located at 460 Sargent Avenue, which is in the Central Park area in downtown Winnipeg.

The construction of our school began in 1988 and welcomed its first students in September of 1989.  The school is named after Sister Geraldine MacNamara, who was a strong advocate and supporter of the youth living in the heart of the Inner City of Winnipeg.  She founded Rossbrook House and received many distinguished awards for her life’s work.  We strive to meet her vision of social justice by providing the best educational experience and opportunities for our students and their families. A beautiful quilt hangs in the landing of the stairwell to commemorate the first students and staff of the school

Our school offers programming for students in Nursery School to Grade 6.   Our current enrolment is around 325 students.  Teachers, educational assistants and support staff work closely to offer a rich academic learning program for students and we also provide EAL classes to support students in Grades 2-6 that are new to Canada in our community.  We have hosted a month long whole school Inquiry Learning model that students have enjoyed very much in the spring over the past several years.   Reading, writing and mathematical learning goals remain a central focus for the whole school.  We have an outstanding Physical Education program and there are several noon-hour clubs offered for students.  These opportunities provide students with an experience to participate in a variety of sports and time to learn social skills while playing organized games.  We also offer a rich Arts program where students have an opportunity to excel in drama, fine arts, music and dance.

Our families enjoy our yearly events such as Meet the Staff, Welcome to Kindergarten, Winter Concert, Family Gatherings and many other events that occur on a monthly and annual basis.  The school enjoys a strong partnership with our families and an active Family Room that provides programming based on the interests of our families.  We receive many visitors every year that used to attend Sister MacNamara School and fondly remember their time at our school. We are quite proud of our students and dedicated staff.  Thank you for your virtual visit to our school.

Sincerely,

Mrs. D. Lenhardt Mair
